Description
Kuripe made from Dark Waru Wood "Standing Owl"
"Standing Owl" is a carved kuripe in the form of an upright figure. The upper part is shaped as an owl with large eyes and carved feathers, and the lower part transitions into the classic kuripe arms. This model has a more sculptural character - it looks like a small object that can stand in a space, not just a tool with a simple body.
Material - dark Waru wood
Waru is a hard and dense wood. In the dark version it usually has a deep-brown tone, sometimes leaning into graphite-like, smoky shades. The grain is often subtle and low-contrast, which is why the carved feather cuts and edge details create the main “readability” of the pattern here. After finishing, the surface feels smooth, while the natural character of the wood remains.
Handcraft and differences
Each piece is handmade, so small differences may appear in shade, grain layout, and carving details (depth of cuts, edge sharpness, finishing). With dark wood, tonal differences can be subtle, but visible under light.
