Description
Kuripe made from Dark Waru Wood "Turtle"
"Turtle" is a carved kuripe where the entire body of the tool is shaped as a small turtle figure. You can see the shell with carved lines, the head, and the legs, while the two kuripe arms are integrated into the form so it remains a functional tool, not just a decoration.
Material - dark Waru wood
Waru is a hard and dense wood. In this version it is clearly darker, usually in deep-brown tones, sometimes with subtle, low-contrast grain. After finishing, the surface feels smooth, but in carved models the material keeps its natural “liveliness” and the trace of handwork.
Carving and use
The turtle form creates a few natural resting points for the fingers, so the tool sits well in the hand. At the same time, it’s worth remembering that with this kind of carving, details may vary slightly between pieces - that’s normal, because each one is handmade.
Good to know
-
grain layout, the tone of dark Waru, and small color transitions may differ between pieces
-
carved elements catch light differently, so the detail can look more pronounced in person than in photos
-
this is a more “object-like” model - it can stand in a ritual space like a small figure
If you want a kuripe that, besides its function, also has a clear motif and a carved character, the "Turtle" in dark Waru is exactly that kind of variant.
