Adaptogenic mushrooms, also known as functional mushrooms, have been used for centuries in traditional medicine, especially in Far Eastern countries. Their popularity comes from a rich profile of bioactive compounds such as beta-glucans, polysaccharides, triterpenes, vitamins, and minerals, which support health on multiple levels.
Immune system support
Beta-glucans found in mushrooms such as reishi, shiitake, or maitake support the immune system by stimulating immune cell activity and improving the body’s response to infections.
Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity
Adaptogenic mushrooms contain powerful antioxidants that help neutralize free radicals, reducing oxidative stress and inflammation. For example, chaga is valued for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory qualities.
Nervous system support
Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus) supports nervous system health and is widely associated with focus, memory, and overall cognitive function.
Blood sugar and cholesterol balance
Mushrooms such as maitake and shiitake are often used to support healthy blood glucose levels and help maintain healthy LDL cholesterol levels, supporting metabolic and cardiovascular health.
Adaptogenic action
Adaptogenic mushrooms, including reishi and cordyceps, are described as adaptogens that help the body cope with stress, support physical and mental resilience, and help maintain hormonal balance.
