What is chlorella?
Chlorella is a single-celled, freshwater microalga with an intense green color. Thanks to its naturally rich nutrient profile, it is considered a “nutrient-dense food.” In dry mass it typically contains around 50–60% protein with a favorable amino acid profile, is one of the richest natural sources of chlorophyll, and provides a range of micronutrients—including iron, magnesium, and carotenoids (e.g., lutein and beta-carotene).
Broken cell walls – what does it mean and why does it matter?
The species Chlorella pyrenoidosa naturally has a tougher, more fibrous cell wall than, for example, Chlorella vulgaris. To fully unlock the material’s potential, a process is used to disrupt the cell wall (known as broken cell wall), typically by mechanical means (e.g., micro-milling or homogenization).
